Terms of Use

These terms of use ("Terms") apply to the ScienceTLDR mobile application and the sciencetldr.com website (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by Norsight Oy, a limited company registered in Finland (Business ID 3650992-5, registered office in Espoo, Finland) ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
ScienceTLDR provides plain-language summaries, narrated audio and short videos based on published scientific research. Summaries are produced with the assistance of artificial intelligence and are curated by us. Each summary links to the original publication it is based on.
2. Informational content — no advice
Summaries are simplifications of scientific publications and may contain errors or omissions. They are provided for general information and education only. They are not medical, health, legal, financial or other professional advice, and they are not a substitute for reading the original publication or consulting a qualified professional. Always verify important information against the linked original source.
3. Subscriptions and payment
- Parts of the Service may require a paid auto-renewing subscription, purchased through Apple's App Store as an in-app purchase.
- The subscription name, duration and price are shown in the app before purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your device settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Billing, renewals and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. Refund requests are made to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
4. Intellectual property
The Service, including its summaries, audio, video, design and branding, is owned by Norsight Oy or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial use. The original scientific publications belong to their respective authors and publishers; bibliographic metadata is used under the terms of its sources, and links always point to the original publication.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service — including scraping or bulk-extracting content, reselling or redistributing it, attempting to disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the Service, or using it in violation of applicable law.
6. Availability and changes
We develop the Service continuously and may change, suspend or discontinue features. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee that the Service is uninterrupted or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Norsight Oy is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Service during the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, or affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always available at sciencetldr.com/terms, with the date of the latest update shown above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this site.
9. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland. As a consumer you retain the protections of the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence. Consumers in Finland may refer disputes to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi); consumers in the EU may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
